Before I discuss the religions of dune let me explain that in this universe it's as if every other religion was replaced by atheists then pushed forward 1000 years so new religions are created. there are three primary religions the religions of Science, politics, and greed and I don't have to give you any of my warped interpretations of the text because the book says this. For any one reading dune the Reverend mother explains this to Paul right after his ordeal/trial by pain.(were he had to stick his hand into the box of pain.) I'm positive all three of the religions have different names and members of there society but unfortunately I don't have my book and this has to be done by 2:00pm. Sorry, if anybody is curious I'll look it Up. Other than the new forms of religion the basic ideas of faith and morality have in my opinion been twisted. Each religion gets there own costumes and rituals i assume but really so far all I've heard about is the political religion or the Bene Gesserit. these people train and get freaky powers of perception so they can tell if people are telling the truth like human lie detectors. The religion is primarily women or at least that is what i have picked up on but they have a proficy about a male member with will get a lot of extra power and that is who everybody thinks Paul is.

Your blog is pretty cool and it seems that your book dune is pretty interesting. But what do you mean when you say that faith is being twisted and taking on kind of a different meaning. Or am I assuming that it's taking on a new meaning?
O.k. maybe I was not clear this book's religions take twisted views because it no longer deals with moral decisions as the back ground for the religions. Most religions in today societies teach about a strong moral center were the just will be reworded and the weaked will be punished. In dune there is a religion for pure science were the smartest individuals are considered the musias. For the religion of greed the richest person is the strongest. This greed religion to tell the truth I can't tell if it is an actual religion or if it is like our society today that worships money. Then the last religion the political one is more like a colt there is no other was I can think of to describe it but it is probably the closest one to the modern catholic. They go through freaky rituals and they believe in a chosen one how will come and be there musia at lest that is what I think I need to get father through the book to tell Y'all more. This is just from the first few chapters it is a lot to digest.
yeah, cason asked my question, and you answered it about faith. however, i was more interested in what you meant about twisting morality. actually, i would like to know what you think constitutes morality. we seem (we=our culture) to have some reified notion of morality, as if it were static and existed outside of ourselves. is this the case?
To answer your question about morality existing outside of ourselves my answer is no. (There are basic Gide lines in any religion around the world that exists outside of the moral person, in bibles and religious text.) The ability or the want to fallow those Gide lines comes from within. I think morality has everything to do with your conscious. If you don't do something because you consider it wrong, than I consider you a moral person. Since no two people are alike, it has to be an internal decision to decide if what you do is right or wrong. Plus weather or not you could live with yourself after the dead is done. Some people actually lack such capabilities. In dune the same theory however the people only reflect on weather there decision is wrong if it costs them more than they were willing to lose. It is like the consciences have been removed from these people. There religion is political and this makes since that they may have the ability to reflect but there Gide lines have been warped. They reflect not because of any ill feeling over what they have done but because of the over all strategic value. They kill people without a second thought and sceam with peoples lives and emotions as a part of there thought process. The closest character I have seen come to regret over ill feelings has been Yueh and he is still going to kill Paul the first opportunity he gets. Paul is less important to yueh than the opportunity that he might see his wife again or, the chance at killing the baron when he is gloating over his victory.
